Our first post: An amalgamation of thoughts on Zodiac
Well, it has come to this: our own post on Zodiac. I don't even know where to start.
I didn't really see myself writing stuff or writing about Zodiac, but I thought about the idea and it might be a fun way to speak with the community—and also like a kind of journal to myself to track what happened and answer any questions.
The Journey So Far
First, Zodiac has gone through a lot. It started as a dating app with zodiac matchmaking, but we moved the scope and now it has a whole new identity. We added more fun features related to astrology (the astrology roadmap is huge), but we pivoted Zodiac into the friend or group discovery zone.
A big problem a lot of people have today is not finding people to interact with anymore—people that have the same things in common or things they like. Not being able to find a local community of people with the same interests. We thought about slowly moving Zodiac into that area.
Starting Small with "Crews"
We have a looot of ideas on what to add, but we wanted to start small. The first step is to validate the idea for ourselves. The new mechanic of starting a crew in your area, inviting random people, speaking with others, and going through a mini journey online together seemed like fun and a good start; it would make people connect in a way.
That is also why I have chosen astrology. I will be sincere: I don't have a strong belief in astrology—not for it and not against it—but it seemed like a fun and sincere way for people to want to find out more things about one another.
DISCLAIMER: I might have this view about astrology because I am a Gemini, and people always react weirdly when they hear that! ;)
The Tech Side
I wanted to do it right, so all the calculations are genuine. I implemented the Whole Sign calculation method for the houses, and the compatibility between two people is done with a couple of other methods.
BTW, if you find any inaccuracies, you can contact me; I will be very happy to speak about them and resolve the issue. All the formulas are taken from online resources—I tried to find the most reputable sources—but I am a human, so there might be some bugs in my code.
ALSO, a small disclaimer on the compatibility part: some user-facing scores are simplified down to keep the app fun for non-astrology enthusiasts. So yeah, we want to use it differently: for connections.
Final Thoughts
The road was hard. This is my first mobile app and the first time I’ve published something to the internet other than a site or a web app, and I am happy that it will see the light of day.
We are new to this, so it is also a bit scary. I think that at this point, launching it and becoming popular and big is way scarier than the possibility of it crashing.
This was more like a small post to set the environment. You can contact us at our email or via the links on the site.
See ya!
